History: | An incident name in relation to the Paoli Massacre, which occurred here during the Revolutionary War. On the night of September 20, 1777, British troops, prior to their assault on Philadelphia, led a surprise attach on an American regiment led by General Anthony Wayne. 53 Americans were killed and 100 wounded in the raid. Those killed in the battle are buried at the nearby Paoli Memorial Grounds. |
